Turtle Charapa

Turtle Charapa

  • Scientific name:
    Podocnemis Unifilis

They are lateral neck turtles, locally known as charapas turtles.

Turtle Charapa

  • Podocnemis Unifilis

Side-collared turtles owe their name to their inability to completely tuck their heads inside their shells; instead, bend the neck to the sides to put it, leaving a part exposed.

Both species lay their eggs on the sand banks of the rivers during the dry season, so that the nests are not washed away by the water.
